On a crisp, blue sky, autumn day, I set up my easel next to the Big Thompson River in Moraine Park. An elk cow and calf wandered close to me and then walked into the river. I had plenty of time to observe and photograph them and also paint sketches of the river with the marsh grasses, the mountains, the meadow, and the brilliant fall colors of the trees and bushes.
Capturing a moment, a mood, a thought is what motivates Joan Wolbier to create art. She works with a variety of media, always wanting to satisfy her curiosity and to challenge herself as a visual artist. During her career, Joan has studied figure drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and book arts. Her favorite medium is watercolor and she loves to paint landscapes, plants, and wildlife. She recently published a book of her paintings titled "Painting Colorado: A Watercolor Journal."
